DeleteAgain Cinder, the reason I'm not moving on is because while I acknowledge that I could have handled things better at times, no one on the other side ever did the same thing. I have a hard time with people who are intransigent with others but won't hold themselves to the same bar.

All I knew about her is that I had had a bad interaction with her on a previous thread that had nothing to do with race. And the only reason I said anything is because Alysse, who I knew was a black woman, asked why no one was responding to Money comments, and I didn't want to ignore Alysse.

DeleteI finally created a BBC account after months (or maybe years?) of lurking so I could ask a question about buying a house on the financial board. My spouse and I had just recently started working at the time and we were trying to repay our students loans, save for retirement, etc. So I was really into learning how to make smart financial decisions and building some wealth. It really grates me now cause I'm the worst at money management and have never been able to follow a budget long term (so many missguided budget workspreads in my Google drive). And I hate the association with the financial sector. I don't know what I was thinking :/

ReplyDeleteFrom my point of view, I've been constantly shitted of for doing or not doing this or that.
As I said, it my issues started because I decided to respond to Alysse on the cake thread when she asked why no one was reacting to Money's comments. I was not planning on saying anything until Alysse said something. In the past, I had seen Alyssa upset about people ignoring that type of comments and that's why I responded to her. I thought I was doing to right thing by responding to the one poster I knew was a fellow black woman. I didn't have an issue with WOC dealing with racism how they saw fit. My issue started when I felt I was criticized for how I personally deal with it. And for explaining these things in response to people asking me questions. I was told later on that Alysse call to respond to Money's comments did not apply to me apparently. I still find it weird that I was apparently supposed to know that.
I don't understand these kind of social interactions. I've always feel like I had reasonable level of social intelligence but I usually shy away from groups that have a lot of conflicts and clearly I don't understand the dynamics on BHB, not do I feel comfortable there. I have definitely have come to the conclusion that some people on BHB really enjoy having punching balls. I feel like a lot of people are just like Gracie and have no problem jumping at the throat of anyone who they think miss behaved, but they themselves expect to get a pass for anything, and they get it as long as they have enough friends on their side on the board. I have an issue with that. I understand that I'm in the minority, either for interpreting BHB to be this way or for have an issue with that.
I understand that a majority of people think that my perception is screwed up and that I'm postering as the victim and that I'm the problem. There was no way to reconcile my point of view with the dominant point of view of the board and my point of view was clearly not accepted or acceptable there, so I left.
Same as it ever was, you didn't realize it's trendy to be a POC on bhb? It shields you from criticism and you get built in friends (as long as you also use vicious sarcasm and attack anyone who steps out of line). "You're a snarky POC... you're one of us!"
